In many Northwest Coast cultures, the bear symbolizes strength.
But not the kind that shouts or demands. The bear leads by protecting. By providing. By remembering. It’s not just about power. It’s about care. The bear is a teacher, a guide, a presence that holds the family together.
This is the spirit behind Matriarch Bear, a design by Tsimshian artist Morgan Asoyuf (Ts’msyen, Eagle Clan) Morgan’s work reflects that balance—firm in structure, quiet in tone, rooted in tradition. She trained as a goldsmith, and it shows. Every detail is deliberate. Nothing is rushed or just decorative.
