ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Michelle Stoney is a Gitxsan and Cree artist who grew up in a family  of  renowned  Gitxsan creators. Her grandfather, master carver Victor Mowatt, and great-uncle, sculptor Earl Muldon, greatly influenced her as an artist.

After graduating from Emily Carr University of Art and Design, Michelle developed a unique artistic style that blends the traditional formline techniques  of her Gitxsan heritage with the vibrant colors and bold outlines typical of Cree art. This  blend is a hallmark of Michelle’s work, reflecting her deep connection to both cultures.

Through her art, Michelle aims to offer a modern take on Indigenous  traditions,  enriching  the ongoing evolution of these artistic forms.
