We’ve partnered-up with a really admirable company here in Vancouver. They’re called Native Northwest, and operate on the unceded territory of the Musqueam, Coast Salish Nation. Their staff is also made up of people from that Nation.
Native Northwest has as its mission to support and stimulate Indigenous art and culture – a mission that we at Made By Humans wholeheartedly applaud.
All of the artwork on their products is designed by contemporary Native artists, who have given written consent and contractual permission for the use of their art on Native Northwest products, and who are compensated for their work in the form of fees and royalties.
We are impressed by the creativity of several of these artists. What sets their work apart is that it manages to strike a perfect balance between traditional Indigenous imagery and contemporary design. A balance that results in high-quality products that are eye-catching, colorful and trendy. Things that make wonderful gifts for both children and adults.
Native Northwest donates a part of each and every sale to charities that support Indigenous families and communities that have been impacted by Residential Schools and inter-generational trauma.
They have established a Native Northwest Reconciliation Fund that currently supports approximately 150 Indigenous students at 13 colleges and universities in British Columbia with 5-year long scholarships and bursaries.
They also donate funds to the BC Aboriginal Child Care Society, the Vancouver Aboriginal Child & Family Services Society and the Urban Native & Youth Association.
They have, furthermore, entered into a 2-year partnership with the U’mista Cultural Centre to sponsor 15 students for a workshop that teaches them traditional Kwakwaka’wakw carving techniques.
In short, we greatly value our partnership with Native Northwest. Not only are we proud to be able to distribute a curated selection of their top products but we also strongly support their admirable cause. Hope you will too!
